    Burlington, Vt. - Gov. Jim Douglas announced plans today to distribute more than $9.4 million in drug and alcohol prevention grant funds to as many as 24 Vermont communities to develop, strengthen and maintain substance abuse prevention services throughout the state.

    The grants, $2.35 million in federal funds per year for the next four years, will impact underage drinking and high-risk alcohol and marijuana use by Vermonters age 25 and younger.

    Douglas Administration Rules Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Automobiles

    Montpelier , Vt. – Governor Jim Douglas today praised the federal district court of Vermont for upholding the strict greenhouse gas emissions standards for automobiles adopted by his administration.

    Defending itself against a lawsuit brought by the automobile industry, Governor Douglas said his administration was very pleased its tougher standards were upheld.

  • Governor's Commission on Commercial Wind Energy Regulatory Policy Releases Final Report

    July 13, 2007

    Montpelier, Vt. -- A commission appointed by Governor Jim Douglas has concluded that the existing regulatory framework for large utility projects is generally suitable for evaluating industrial wind energy developments, but also recommends a series of changes to improve public participation and address issues of overlapping jurisdiction when a wind generation project is proposed in an area subject to Act 250.
