Flooding in Vermont
Tuesday, August 31, 2004 -- Governor Jim Douglas and the Town of Fletcher road commissioner inspect flood damage.
Governor Douglas later sent a letter to the President requesting he declare a major disaster for the State of Vermont as a result of severe rains and associated flooding for the period beginning August 12, 2004 and continuing until the passage of tropical storm Frances.
The Governor said the counties most severely impacted by the rains and flooding include: Lamoille, Addison, Orleans, Chittenden, Windham, Franklin, and Caledonia.
"We requested Public Assistance for each of these seven counties," the Governor said. The federal government later granted assistance for the recovery and clean up efforts.
