Opening Day of Trout Season

St. Johnsbury, VT -- Outdoor traditions such as fishing and hunting are best passed from onegeneration to the next by direct exposure with an adult. Six-year old Kirby Occaso from Kirby, Vermont is shown here with Vermont Governor Jim Douglas on opening day of the state's trout season, April 9, 2005 as they tried their luck on the Moose River in St. Johnsury.

"Many of us look back with fondness at our first fishing experience as a youngster," said Governor Douglas. "In most cases, an older family member or friend helped introduce us to fishing by showing us the basics. We learned how to tie knots, how to cast, where to find the fish, and how to prepare fish for the table. Those experiences were a lot of fun, but most importantly, they are indelibly etched in our memories. We will always remember doing those things together."
